Before I gave birth to my son in 1987, I had little or no connection to the world of children. After his birth, the profound question of how we grow, develop and become who we are entered my thoughts. Over a 5 year period, I photographed my son, methodically tracking his physical development from 'amphibious' form to bipedal human. As the project progressed, I observed how my son would mimic and learn from his immediate environment, forming the seeds of his personality.
